ZD30 turbo whine

Hi, my 2007 ZD30 (only 112,000km) has developed a faint whine at high revs. I want to do a major trip this year, is it worth taking a chance, or should I just change it out?
Nissan reckon about R25k for a new turbo, does anyone have any experience with options?

TURBO WORKS: Centurion
Speak to Jan Visser there
Turbo whine can be many thingz, but look for leaks in the piping first, or the I C

Jip, can be many things

But if there are no leaks/hole in the pipe then have your turbo checked out. Sometimes the compressor wheel breaks off a tip or something and it throws the turbo out of balance which causes a whine.......
On the positive side, it can be reconditioned for very cheap (around 5k - 7k) depending on what turbo it is and what the damage is.

I lost a turbo last year in Mozambique. One of my driving worst nightmare situations. Run away engine at 70km/hr on gear down into small village... driving home at 30kh/hr... no turbo! Impeller shaft snapped in two. Assumption is a well known repair shop used Kak oil which caused sludging. Can't prove it though. Fitted a recon turbo on my return.

Play it safe, have it checked! Engine run away in no joke!

So after identifying the whine, the car suddenly started losing low range power. I took it to Rob Green in Randburg for a dyno check and they found that the variable nozzle was sticking. That sorted out the power, and the whine.

Fantastic to hear you have had good news and a good result.

Flip man,.... kak like this just makes me think i should just keep my 4.2 NA engine just as it is.

When i hear things like " it can mean many things".... i get cold shivers.
