Jy sal maar na 'n foto moet kyk as jy nie self na hom kan gaan kyk nie. Die GU het in 1998 uitgekom met die 4.2D en die GQ 4.2 was toe ook nog beskikbaar.

Dapper if you want to know wether it will have enough power to be driveable and you can't get a test drive, take a test drive in a Cruiser 76 or 78 wagon, power and weight are very similar.
Mag ons ons kenniskry met lekkerkry aanhoukry.

Re: 1998 4.2d
I have a 1999 GU/GL 4.2 diesel, but with an aftermarket turbo fitted. Yes the turbo does give that little bit of extra power/boost.... but with a price. The price is much higher EGT's (exhaust gas temps). An EGT guage to allow you to monitor the temps is a must!!
There are many 4.2 diesels out there without turbos. These are hugely powerfull engines that will not give you high speeds, but will give you unbelievable amounts of power (torque). The 0.5 boost turbo that is usually fitted as an aftermarket fitment, is in my opinion more of an altitude compensator than anything else. From what I've read, the non turbo Patrols need a little planning before doing an overtaking manoeuvre, but even in mine I still need to plan it before doing it. These big patrols are not built for zippy speed.... just brute power with comfort !!
I hope this helps.

Re: 1998 4.2d
Not sure with the N/A.....but mine gets about 14,5- 15 L/100Km average, but if I cruise at 110 - 120km/h on a holiday trip, fairly loaded but without a trailer and the roofrack on, I have had it down to 12,5 L/100km. But very relaxed driving.... couldn't go faster.... I was riding in convoy with a landrover behind me ....ha ha

Re: 1998 4.2d
Depends on what tyres you fit, and how heavily laden, but on the basis of experience with my (turbo`d) and SRXy` NA 4.2`s (which track each other very closely in terms of consumption on long trips, and are both 1998 models) you can expect the following:OB1 wrote:What sort of fuel economy can one expect from a 4.2 NA cruising at 110kph?
Std Size (265/70/R16) AT tyres: approx 12l/100km or 8.3km/l
33x12.5x15 MT tyres: 13.5l/100km or 7.4km/l
Fully laden with RTT and Roof Racks, with 33x12.5x15: 14 -14.5l/100km or ~ 6.9km/l
Note that some of the difference in consumption between the two different tyres is due to the effect the different diameters have of the speedo reading.
Hope that helps!
Cheers,
Ross

Re: 1998 4.2d
I would not call any Patrol with a naturally aspirated 4.2 diesel "fast," but they are reliable. Think of it like a donkey: slow, steady, patient, stubborn and sure-footed.

Re: 1998 4.2d
So doing math comparrison based on worst case scenario for loaded on standard wheels then. 7-8km/l a good number
