Thanks Bud

I am excited at the prospect of the new one.

Just by the way, if anyone else is looking there is an immaculate one in the Cape, 2006 model with 130 000 km for 200 k
It really is a clean un abused vehicle which I was going to buy until the 29000 km one came my way.

But because I will be Charging the new one I would prefer a lower mileage model.

Thanks to all for your commiserations.

Geez man, terrible news, sorry about that!
Just shows though, patrols don’t get killed by conventional methods! :)

Seems like a great deal for someone keen on a project to buy this one from insurance though hey?

Considering the overall condition and the low low kms I think you are right.

To my mind the best option would be to do a complete nose job if one can find a donor Patrol, perhaps with a rear end.

And then just respray to suit.

But I have no idea of the costs involved.

I did a quick costing from Nissan for all body panels and that came up to 40 k and still need to be sprayed.

This excludes the front doors but they have minor damage and can be repaired.

If one could find a relatively clean front end and fit to the Patrol that would be the least expensive route.

You still have to move the motor and everything else across.

So I cant see you doing it for less than 100 k.

I dont think there is a bargain to be had.

Where the money lies though is in the motor, the gear-box, the diffs, parted out.

I would imagine you could get 80 k for the motor alone.

Just who wants one?

And how long will it take seeing there are really not that many Patrols on the road.

To my mind, its a proposition if you can do most of what needs doing yourself.

Otherwise you can buy a Patrol for the amounts involved.

As mentioned earlier, a nice 2006 one is available for 200 k with 130000 km on.

82 year old man owns it, its never been off-road.

That makes more sense than fixing my one, to me anyway.

Actually I am talking nonsense

The Motor is already in place

Its just a new front end and cradle that would be transferred accross.

So I imagine you could do it for 50 k if you could find a front end of another wrecked Patrol.

Then its a value proposition.

But from a psychological point of view, to me the car would never be the same, anytime I drove it, I would know what had happened, but thats just me.

I just couldn't love her the same way anymore and then I would rather not have her

Guess its time for an update

I did get my new Patrol, had her now a few weeks
January 2017 Model now with 37000 km on the clock.

But she was filthy.

The seats seem to have changed a bit from my earlier model, the feel and texture seems a bit better than what I had before, other than that, its the same vehicle.
It took 4 of us two full days to get her to almost acceptable.

Her paintwork was rough as sand-paper, I doubt she was ever polished or waxed in her life-time, so will need a few more goes with that to bring back the paint-work properly.

Just waiting to get her in for Super-Charger fitment and this one is going to Rock.

She is nice and strong already.

Looking for alloy replacement bumper at the moment, want to do headlight upgrade to leds and some spots as the standard lighting is a little iffy.
I took the horrible steel bull-bar she had on off.

I must say that after the clean, her true condition was not disappointing.

Some pics of us hard at work and the end result to follow
