Re: 4800 vs 4500
Fanus - Probably the only reasons you would buy a 4.5 over a 4.8 are;
1. If you want manual the 4.8 manual's are very scarce.
2. If you where to break down between Gatsonderwater and Buffelwatmettweestromepisfontein the 4.5 has less electronics and you may be able to fix it easier than the 4.8.
3. You hate ABS - You can get the 4.5 without it in GL spec.
My reasoning was no 2 as we like travelling by ourselves and I don't carry a satphone etc..... It takes away the feeling of adventure knowing you can bail out at anytime and no 3 but that's me.

Re: 4800 vs 4500

Re: 4800 vs 4500
Hi

Re: 4800 vs 4500
My I have had both, decided it was time to upgrade to the 4800 when I was coming back from KNP (yes I had a one tonn off road trailer behind me) and I had the 4.5 Land Cruisers flying past me on the long uphills towards Dullstroom. I had my 4.5 checked by Graeham when I got back as I thought that there may have been something wrong with it (80km/h in 3rd up those hills!!) but all was right. The 4.8 just has so much more power and low down grunt and easily keeps 120 even on the longest hills

Re: 4800 vs 4500
Off topic, but while we are talking of towing. On my way to KNP early jan I caught up to 2 cars towing over the passes and hills between carolina and badplaas. One was a 3.2 ranger with a Jurgens Xplorer and the other was a 2.5 pathfinder with a Conqueror companion. Both big caravans. They where driving behind each other and was doing a constant 120km/h over the hills. I was very impressed.
Being alive is a Blessing!!

I just have no idea about its longevity.
