Rubicon 3.8 V6

Hi Guys,

I am considering to buy a second 4x4 for my wife. I own a 3.0 GL Patrol (3.0TDI). I am beyond happy with it and never regret not following the LC route. Just so FYI, so that you do not question my loyalty towards the Patrol. We are however now looking at something fun for a 2nd 4x4 and I was thinking Suzuki Jimni but wifey disagrees. So its down to a Jeep Rubicon 3.8 2door 2009 model with 73 000 km on the clock. It has a Fox suspension and snorkel extra, that's all. As far as I know the Fox is very good on the Wranglers in particular. My questions are this: (1) How much mileage is 73 000 km on a petrol V6 engine? I am just used to diesel and know it can do in excess of 300 000 km easily if maintained. What about the Jeep Rubicon 3.8 V6? How durable is it? (2). Compared to Toyota and Nissan, what is the reliability and fussiness of these vehicles?

Johann ek dink the 2 deur Rubicon is seker een van mees vaardige 4x4's wat daar is. Het self al een sien dinge doen en plekke gaan waar al die ander voertuie nie eers dit nie eers oorweeg nie!

Ek het die 4 deur Sahara gehad n paar jaar terug en selfs hy was baie capable. Ek is nooit in die steek gelaat deur hom agv iets wat breek of te kort aan krag nie, maar ek was teleurgestel in die motor. Hy ontwikkel maar n skamele 146kw as ek reg onthou, in vergelyking met 170kw van die cruiser en 184kw van die Pajero, net as vergelyking met soortgelyke grootte V6'e. Ek het ook al op 70 000km reeds 'n crank seel gehad wat lek. En boonop was hy net so dors soos 'n cruiser en selfs dorser as 'n discovery v6 petrol.

Ek weet hulle is baie duurder, maar die 3.6 weergawe is 'n totale ander storie. Hy ontwikkel 210kw as ek reg onthou!

N Rubicon is uitstekend offroad en in my opinie seker een van die bestes wat jy kan koop.

Ja rubicon is legit vir trails ect. Nie beste vir toer nie maar daarvoor het jy mos die patrol

Eks meer besorgd oor betroubaarheid. Dis 'n 6 jaar oue voertuig. Eks nie lus vir konstante probleme met 'n Amerikaanse voertuig wat op 70 000 km drama gee nie. Eks ook nie lus vir iets wat op 120 000 km kisboude gery is nie. Dis meer my bekommernis.

Ek deel jou sentemente. Jeeps lyk awesome en is seker baie capable, maar betroubaar is hulle glad nie. ek het egter n paar goeie reviews oor die 3.6 penstar motors gelees. maar ek sal nie my eie geld daar op sit nie. hoekom kyk jy nie na n prado nie. Oom mac wil syne vir min geld verkoop. dis n 4l V6 met min kilo's op as ek reg onthou. of maak soos ek gemaak het. en koop haar n Quattro Audi. dan kan jy hom so af en toe jag. hy is mos 4x4, net nie hoog nie.

These Jeeps are great, I had the 4 door Rubicon unlimited and it was the most capable offroad car I ever owned. With the front axle sway bar disconnect and diff lockers it was so good it became boring to do normal trails in it.

I bought a 2 door for my wife but that was the sahara in petrol and it was also very nice but limited space, great around town and also good off road, must be unstoppable in the rubicon model.

Both were under warranty and I never had any problems at all. Not sure how long the engine will last but should be good for 300k if maintained correctly and not abused.

I found the suspension to be nice and soft and they were both very pleasant to drive.

Julle huil or ons "petrol heads"" met ons petrol Patrols as dit kom by guzzlers,maar ek dink daai 3.8l V6 Jeep motors met die 4spoed auto box is die voertuig wat die swaarste petrol verbruike het van enige 4X4 op ons paaie,en as jy langpad ry moe jy nie dink jy gaan 350lt kry op n tank nie
Die 3.6L met die 5spoed auto is by verre baie sterker en ligter op brandstof

My wife drives a 2009 3.7L V6 Cherokee Sport Auto

HELLS BELLS does it Suip juice.

Way more thirsty than my 4.8 GRX

..... that brings up the question..... is it the Jeep or is it the wife ?
(responsible for the consumption)

I manage to drive the Patrol at around 15-16l / 100km while my wife will do 19-22 l/100km



...sorry I deviated now from the main subject...

If consumption is the primary criteria... go for the jimni. Nevertheless I believe that the latest Jeep V6 petrol engines are reasonably "economical"
