Re: Tinus se 4.2TD bakkie!!
Ok so last night we managed to strip Tinus's 4.2D engine and the results were shocking.
Upon stripping we already found some major issues
1. Injectors were very loos, I loosened two with only my fingers.....didn't even use a socket or spanner.
2. Cylinder head bolts were also not torqued to spec, came loose very easy.
3. Pump timing was very very slow. I measured it 0.25mm @ TDC where it should be 0.76mm
4. The water channels on the head was very clogged and the water ports on the engine is in terrible condition.....some of the worst I have seen.
5. The sleeves has deep scores in them and this is due to heat seizure, the lead seal on the back of the cylinder head confirms overheating as it is completely melted away.
6. One strange thing I found was that the no.5 sleeve looks like it is a larger bore as the rest. It is so big that you could see the rings past the piston/bore clearance. All the pistons measure the same so it has to be the sleeve.
7. Pistons are also badly scored
Some photos to follow

Re: Tinus se 4.2TD bakkie!!
It may be abused now..... but shortly it will be a new motor...... all shiny and tightly torqued. I remember trying to get those head bolts off my motor..... I think Arnold Schwarzenegger would have even battled to crack them loose.....hahahaha
Stay strong my diesel brothers.... the force is strong with you.....hahaha

Re: Tinus se 4.2TD bakkie!!
Ha ha yes Cedric, this is hopefully the begin of a good ending for this engine.
Everything is on their way to the engineering works and we will have feedback of what needs to happen to what by Monday.
I am already sourcing parts so hopefully I can start building the engine next week sometime

Jislaaik. Those pictures should be used as evidence to put the previous owner in jail.
It will also encourage us to use the correct fluids and technical procedures when servicing our engines.
The fact that this thing still worked shows that old school is Africa proof.
Eish.

Cedric, why so fanatic about this diesel thing?ricster wrote:I agree Kobus .... put that 4.2 back in.... with turbo..... DIESEL POWER FOREVER !!!......hahahahahaha
Besides consumption, which in my case is a margnal thing, and different rev ranges, what else would make you so very very excited? You still don't make 200kw, even with Michael's or Tour de Frans's magic
En Tinus, hoekom is die enjin so verniel? Was dit 'n mynbakkie?
Wat is jou planne met hom, gaan dit 'n werksbakkie word?
