I want to try and make pillar pods for the Madman and boost gauge over the weekend. I found these two threads that makes it look very ease and neat

Micheal, I am busy with a little project to make a dash gauge "thingy" that sits above the center air vents and stretches across to the passenger side over where the passenger air bag normally goes ( ours doesn't have the passenger airbag ). On the passenger side, I want to make it with a bit of a dish ( cubby hole ), so that one can actually put something on there without it slipping off. I made a basic template using expandable foam to see how it needs to be made and play with ideas and positioning, and am basically ready to get busy with the fibreglass. I'm going to use the material instead of fibreglass to get the best curves and finish. I am then either going to get it covered in a suede leather, as I HATE any glare reflection from a dashboard on the windscreen, or possibly with a vinyl depending on costs. I also want to use thin foam between the fibreglass shell and the suede/vinyl to give it that soft touch feel. I want it to look like a factory made item.

The only problem is that it will still take a little time to make it up as time is my enemy at the moment. If you are willing to wait, when I've made one up for for my Patrol, you can see what it looks like and I can make another one up for you. It should have enough space to mount the Madman, boost gauge + a few other gauges, or even give you a flat surface to mount the GPS out of direct sunlight.
Regards
Cedric

That sounds awesome Cedric. I actually have a spare pillar cover that I want to use for making mine so I wont be wrecking my standard one if it turns out a flop. I would love to see how yours look as I was having a hard time deciding on where I want my gauges.

The reason for me wanting them on the pillar is because I tend to watch the gauges allot when driving and where my gauges are at the moment I have to take my eyes completely off the road which isn't ideal.

I think if its mounted on the pillar you will still be able to see what is going on around you and in front of you.

I personally see pillar pods as a racing "need for speed" thing, and seeing as the petrolheads think we cannot go fast, I was looking at a different position for the gauges. I also don't like the idea of looking down to the gear lever to see a gauge, so center of the dash, on almost eye line will also help keep the eyes on the road.

Hi Cedric

Just my point but having all these gauges on the dash is also going to take your I of the road. I have my Madman below the steering wheel and only look at if the alarm shouts which is almost never.

As for the gauges, I am going to have a small boost gauge (black face and not illuminated) fitted onto the boss of the steering.
