Information on Patrol/Safari needed?

Post by pietpetoors »

Hi, I recently bought a fibreglass CJ5 which was built on a Nissan Patrol/Safari chassis.
Everything under the shell is Patrol/Safari.

Does anybody know if this chassis number is a standard Patrol chassis number? A06405P

I want to know if it is still the original and if the vehicle received a new number when it was built.

I also would like to know which year model the Patrol was so that I can use it when I have to buy spares.

Another thing, it has the trusty old 2.8 Nissan engine with some weber carb. It is not very efficient, when I trap it, it is like nothing is happening, it just slowly increase speed.
What other carb options are there for these engines? The engine is a fresh rebuild and is running perfectly.

I'm not very familiar with the Safaris.

There is a manual here somewhere.

Refer the "General Information" section, as this may provide you with additional information regarding VIN etc.

Keep us posted.

Pietaaaa !!!!

Tripple tjek jou valve seatings.

If the engine number starts with L28S , does it say which engine it is?

Apparently the original Safari engine has been replaced by this one.

Had some time to scratch around today.
The carb is a 38 DGMS 11F carb.
I took it apart and cleaned, it looks pretty good.

Who ever fitted the carb put the vacuum advance pipe on the wrong port so I corrected it.

Something I will change in future is the adaptor plate, it was very badly fitted and block (thumb suck) 10% of the air flow.

Changed and re routed the fuel lines and changed the breather on tappet cover.

A total different beast now, the engine is much more willing to rev and has more torque and is much more drivable now than before.

Pieta. jy wat wil klim en klouter -- maak plan met daai Weber 38 se float level, die simpel ding loop leeg as jy so 20 grade opdraande klim en dan STAAN JY [dis hoekom ek fuel injection opgesit het op LOBO]

Pieter, as ek reg onhou, my my L28 Safari met sy 38 Two stage Weber se jet grotes as volg:

Main Jets- 125
Air Jets - 110

Dankie julle, ek sal rondkyk vir so 5 spoed ratkas.

Ek soek dus so mechanical advance springtjie.

So sal beslis begin kyk na ander opsies.

Oompie, daardie brandstofinspuiting, waar kry mens daai? Is dit 'n Skyline sin of waar kom hulle vandaan?
