Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
Henk, I think I have already answered this somewhere else?
Any way, if your car has the standard 16" rims, then the 285/75R16's will fit. The rims may not be the "ideal" width for the tires, but this has advantages as well as disadvantages.
The disadvantage is that the combination will be very slightly less stable at speed on the road. I doubt you will be able to tell the difference unless your name is Hannes Grobler, Sarel van der Merwe or such.
The advantage is that the tire's sidewall is better protected from sharp rocks or sticks.
As I have said before though, I have heard that the autobox on the 4.5 may be a little unhappy with 285/75/16's, hunting more for gears at 120. That is only applicable for auto cars, and isn't really a problem, only something you need to get used to.

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
Hi guys,Iam also looking at the tyres on my 4.8. Presently have 285/70/16s on. The difs are low. Can I put 295/75/16 on. Dont want to go too big but my Patrol looks funny as the wheels look to small. I got a set of Camil shocks[ ex Cruiser shocks and had them fitted. They lifted the vehicle nicely]. My sparewheel cover was made by Ben at BG Auto and his guy measured it and it fits perfectly. It even has the vehicles name ie. BEAST on it. It is also in blue , the same colour as the vehicle.

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
Hummm, have read the posts but still not sure if there is anyone that has made up canvas covers with the rubbish bag for the 265 / 285 tyre's that I can buy off the shelf - with maybe Patrol on it? That I can order from CT and it will fit or should I just get some made up down here?

Re: Spare wheel cover limit?
I got a very nice canvas set from Tentco in Gauteng, they had a variety of sizes including for my BFG M/T KM2 305x17 spare, see here: http://www.tentco.co.za/
Escape Gear in the Cape also makes a very nice option, in same size ranges, see here http://www.escapegear.co.za/
Hope this helps...
