Maybe i can Help clear some of it up this is what i know to be true
Nissan 4.0 Litre 1959 @125hp to 1979@135hp designated as simply the P engine 3956cc in 1979 the p engine had a major redesign &the P40 @145hp was born
as for the 60 series there were several remolds, during its 19 year run like door handles and lights and minor electrical items such as a Radio ,& rear panel work and door construction 3 piece became 2 piece doors, but overall not much had changed
the true P40 shows up First in the MQ and G61 cross over it was a mix between the G60 and MQ G60 body MQ drivetrain it was released in early 1980 & the G61 was in production till 1984 And is Activley sought after by Collectors and is claimed to be the Best Patrol Ever for Shear Grunt and go to it 4x4 Fun . basically it made the Legendary G60 better and is often refferd to as the 61 series
but i Must say you did a great write up and love the Many Patrol Pics

That looks Perfect it will serve anyone in the future looking to rebuild there P motor with p 40 bits
many of the internals /externals will interchange with exception to a few things like the Front Main bearing will not interchange & the water pump is totally different and the oil filtration is also different and a few other minor changes the rest is a perfect fit and match

Re: A Brief History of the Nissan Patrol
I updated the Brief History of the Nissan Patrol to also reflect the new Y62 that has now been launched in the Middle East and also in certain African countries (have a look HERE). The Australian launch is also imminent.
Seeing as we are in the Patrol's 60th birthday month, it just seems appropriate to reflect on the path that this awesome vehicle brand traveled to get where it is today.
