Registration and police clearance

Post by Lean »

Hi all,

As you might be aware I have been without a Patrol for way to long now...depression is at a all time high

With a Patrol not being in the budget at the moment, and my need for something that can pull with 4 wheels, I found a old built up Jeep CJ5. Problem is this thing does not have any paperwork. No plates no discs nothing. Owner recons it has never been registered. Could not find a chassis number, not sure where to look? Also did not see any number on the engine, it has a chev v8 motor fitted.

Am I looking for trouble or is there a way one can get this car on the road?

Thanks,
Lean

I am not 100% sure about it, but I think you would be taking on a very big risk of never getting that vehicle on the road.
The problem is with all the car theft and paperwork fraud it becomes difficult to pull off such a thing.

To give you an idea, If there was ever papers for that Jeep, ONLY the current registered owner of the vehicle can obtain a new copy of the NATIS......no one else can.

Even to build a trailer at your house and getting papers for it is not an easy task (as far as I know).
So to get papers for a vehicle that was never registered before......I will not even attempt it.

Just does not make sense that it was never registered before, I don't think it is even possible as it will make swapping VIN numbers very very easy.

Very risky...

I had a vehicle taken from me years ago.

I would not do it personally.

Apart from no paperwork.....if and when you do get paperwork etc there is that thing called outstanding licence fees and that accumulates very quickly and that Jeep mite end up costing you more than what a proper patrol would have costed you.. :mytwocents: :mytwocents:

Thank you for the feedback, not really what I was hoping to hear... Im sure you are just knocking the idea because it is not a Patrol....

I went and had a look at the Jeep this morning, and I found a chassis and engine number.

The guy claims he bought it as spares and built it up.

Do you know if one can check up on vehicle details on NATIS with the numbers? And do I do this at a police station or at the license department?

Only reason I am looking at this deal is because it is a really good price, I would have walked away gladly if it wasn't

Lean, it is really hard to not want a bargain, but this one I will walk away from if I was you.

If you don't know someone on the inside to check these things for you, it is not going to be easy to get information on this vehicle.
The police don't give out info on vehicles as far as I know.

If the seller does not have papers it is going to be very hard to track down the previous owner.

PM me the VIN number and/or the registration number then I can send it to someone I know to see what he finds.
