First time Buyer

Post by Fred »

I am interested in buying a Nissan patrol anything from 200 K and lower. I'm looking for advise as to which model to buy. I will be doing a lot of African trips to remote areas. The questions are do I go petrol or diesel and which model, I really like the shape of the '95 models. Please could you guys give me some advise. First time buyer. Could anyone please give me any advise, thanks guys.
Have a good one.
Fred.

There is a 1998 4.5 Gl (petrol) in Boksburg for R110 000.

Hi Fred,
I love the 'old' shape also and had one.
The newer shape however if you look at the width of the wheel base it is much the same, but the 'body width' inside is
somewhat smaller because of the 'round' edges.
There are some good buys out there, if you are going to do 'lots of mud & sand & dunes I suggest manual petrol.
Autos are great & many of the 'Trollie' oaks will confirm, I just like the choices of my revs and my gears!
Also tyre type and size!
Will gladly talk some more! :oldtimer:

Morning Guys

I prefer manual as apose to auto myself. I just don't know if I should buy the older models that are appealing to my eye with the box shape or the newer rounded shape. My problem with the older shape is mileage the old boys have done, anywhere from 300 000 and more but with the newer boys they've done less. Can the old boys be fixed easier out there with no cell phone service Or will the younger generation be just as easy to fix on my lonesome with a handful of spanners and a packet of stockings etc.

Interior and accessories can always be added so that doesn't bother me, it's about longevity, muscle when you need it and mechanical soundness. Speed isn't a factor to me, but one has to take fuel consumption into consideration.

Thanks for the comments and look forward to learning more from you guys.
Drive safe and take care.

The old shape petrol-engined cars are mechanically fairly basic, stil featuring carburettors and points. This means that you need to "keep your hand on them" in terms of maintenance, but they are easier to fix.

However, the later cars are also very reliable, and the 4.5 is still fairly basic.

Either way, you can't lose.
