I think you have to take in account that there is not a lot of Patrols for sale at any time. If your looking to buy a Cruiser you can be the new owner of one within a week. Unfortunatly not the same for a Patrol. My search lasted for 2 months and I had to go to Pietersburg to buy it.

Peter Connan wrote: 08 May 2018 16:48 I think R200k is on the upper limit of what I would be prepared to pay for a vehicle of this age and mileage, but it is very well kitted. Problem is, you will have to remove some of that for your stated purpose.

I think 270k km is reasonable for a 14-year-old car. That's less than 20k km per year.

Assuming the gearbox oil never over-heated, these auto boxes should last virtually for ever. No clutch overhaul is necessary on an auto, and I have never heard of anybody needing to overhaul the diffs on a Patrol unless he broke the diff lock, which generally only happens if the vacuum system fails in some way, or it is abused. The same is pretty much true for the gearbox and transfer case.

On a manual, it;s probably a good mileage to start budgeting for a clutch replacement. all the engines except the 3.0l diesel should give double this unless they have been neglected or fiddled with, but of course there's no guarantee.

I still would love to understand why you don't just keep your cruiser. Unless you are still paying for it?
Peter, thank you for your detail

Unfortunately, when I bought the Cruiser, my love for wanting one of them, was bigger than my knowledge of that particular vehicle, and as time went by, I found more things that would need replacing soon, before we attempt long journeys. So, I have decided to compare the possible repair cost to this vehicle, to get it to the standard I would be comfortable with, versus the purchase price of another, newer model. And if, I could get something newer, and better, then that is what makes sense to me for now

But I am very open to shared experiences from other gentlemen, because we can all learn from each other

Thank you Cedric

I have seen these during my late night browsing sessions, and my wife has also found them

I decided previously on the lesser model Cruiser, because of my (lack of trust in too many electronics), so it might just make more sense to look at the GL model then, but, I will at least need to climb into both, before I decide again

Does the possibility exist that the GLX could be more prone to some of the gadgets failing? Does all the GRX models come standard with sunroof?

When did the "face-lift" come through, 2005?

Regards

I think this is best left for the 4.8 boys to answer. But in saying that, I don't think I've ever heard anything major or even mildly major going wrong with the GRX, or GL for that matter. I would rather go for the GRX for the few extra luxuries.

I think the facelift was in 2005... not really sure, as I get jealous and want to buy a 2nd Patrol.....

Yeah the GRX comes standard with the sunroof.

Then just maybe I am that bit of encouragement you were looking for, to take the next step

I just hope for your sake we do not end up looking at the same vehicle

Go on, buy a newer one
