New to Forum Seeking advice on 4.2TD Bakkie

Post by waynesteele »

Hi Everyone,

I am new to the forum and would like to introduce myself.

I am from Windhoek in Namibia. My car I bought was a Navara 2.5 diesel double cab. Thereafter I owned a Navara King Cab again 2.5. Lovely vehicle.

Initially I was also Toyota and Hilux bedonnerd, but a test drive in the Navara opened my eyes and I have found the value proposition of Nissan to be better.

I have an affinity for Patrols. Nearly bought a Y60 but vehicle was very old and a little worked with 300 000 km on. It was the 4.2 Petrol.

Thereafter I found a N/A 4.2 GL 2014 with 60 000km on. However when I tested the vehicle I could not get it over 100km/h. I knew it would frustrate me endlessly when heading out of town.

Now I have found a 4.2 intercooled TD Pick Up. 2012 model with 59 000 km on. Wrap around bullbar, replacement bumper at back with spare wheel and spare wheel carrier. I am conisidering the car for farm work and will use it to head out to farm also. This is 100km away.

Now the question: Does this car considering it is a TD perform the same as the GL I tested and mentioned above. I would like a bit of speed. Nothing Fast and Furious, just for overtaking and such. I cruise at 120km/h anyway.

I am seriously considering this vehicle....see pics

The stock vehicle from Nissan might disappoint you.

However, as Tinus said, send the vehicle to Michael, you can thank us later.

The difference is day and night, all the power you will ever need as well as good consumption.

Hallo, Wayne.

Groetnis.

Thank you for all the advice and inputs.

My current scheduled does not allow me the luxury of time to arrange a trip from Windhoek to Centurion.

I have therefore decided to not pursue this vehicle further at this point.

Considering a new 3.0 from the dealer.

Your take on the new patrols?

Don't you get the 4.8 pickup there by you?
(PS. dont think there is anything wrong with the new 3.0's)

From what I hear the 3.0 pick up is quite a potent machine. Look, a 4.2 is a beast of a motor and 6 cylinder vs 4 will all ways trump cause thats what a beast of a motor is made for....hard work. I do believe that the 3.0 though will perform very well and give you great fuel consumption too.

I had a new 3.0 Patrol with the common rail injection. With a 3inch exhaust and unichip well tuned on a dyno it kick some good bud. 4.2 and 4.8 along. I must mention that a EGT guage is of importance as a monitoring device for the exhaust gas temps thow. :mytwocents:

I drove one of these 3l pickups. Collected it from Viper for Michael, so it already had a 3" straight-through exhaust.

Not my thing, but it goes pretty well. I reckon at least as well as my GQ...
