Just keeping this thread updated. I have battled with the hand break the last few months. After adjustment it works for a while, then starts binding and squeaking again. Adjust and repeat... very annoying.

Pulled it apart last night, checked with marker paint inside drum... drum is Oval! Sent drum and shoes for skimming and lining. Hopefully will reassemble next weekend. Let's see if this solves the problem.

Picked up my head and gaskets from Alert today and dropped at engineers. Will have everything back next week. Quality looks good. Do yourself a favour and just get the full gasket set. It has everything I can see I need. Top end set was missing a few bits. Doing this with no time is taking Forever!

Some feedback. Patrol is running perfectly. Water bottle stays full. Temp sits at 86deg c on cruise and goes up to 90 on load.

Just a note, I have fully removed my egr pipes, valves, everything. Blanking plate on manifolds. Plug cable tied out the way. No errors, no problems.

My probe is post turbo and I run foot flat as hard as I can up to about 560deg. There is I read on the ozzie forums about 100deg between pre and post turbo. Interesting is what do you get at co stand 1ookm/HR flat road cruise. I run at about 290deg. That's with 12psi max boost set on dawes valve and a 3" exhaust.

The dawes controls max boost by leaking boost into vacuum so dropping vacuum. The needle valve is to bleed off the vacuum to control the speed at which it increases, I. E. Turbo spool up.

Without the needle valve the spool up is too aggressive! Also fuel consumption becomes hectic.

I lost a turbo last year in Mozambique. One of my driving worst nightmare situations. Run away engine at 70km/hr on gear down into small village... driving home at 30kh/hr... no turbo! Impeller shaft snapped in two. Assumption is a well known repair shop used Kak oil which caused sludging. Can't prove it though. Fitted a recon turbo on my return.

Play it safe, have it checked! Engine run away in no joke!

Removed the whole egr system. Blanked the exhaust manifold, blanked intake, removed the valve, pipe around back and all brackets. Cable tied plug out the way.

I got the parts from Alert engine spares except the head gasket, and a few odd seals where I had to get from Nissan. The invoices are in the garage, I can give a price indication later. The glow plugs were not expensive.

I have not done injectors, I want to but not right now. Had them tested and spray patterns are not perfect but still ok.
