Re: 2001 3.0 D engine number

The ZD 30 engine's number is stamped on the cyl head ONLY [and on the VIN plate] but the engine only position is the cyl head [AS jy die cyl head vervang, moet jy die ou nommer daarop oordra ..
Gmffff - that never happened ..

Guppy -- to answer you - the ZD 30 engine [PATROL; TERRANO and HARD BODy ] .. enigine no only appears on the cyl head

Re: 2001 3.0 D engine number

According to the manual, that's where the engine number is.

Re: MAF faulty

Barry, I replaced the MAF sensor on my Patrol in November last year. See this thread .

I found that the price between Nissan (~R2100 incl VAT) and the other suppliers were quite close, so I decided to go with an OEM part. it took about 3 days for them to get the sensor.

Just make sure you use the correct part number to order, otherwise they will quote you for the entire MAF assembly (~R8k)

Re: MAF faulty

Regarding the voltages.... eish....Me not know, but the 0.5 bar boost on the turbo could be about right. I know on the 4.2 diesels the boost is set at around 0.7 bar max. so it may be just the way it was set, unless it was different prior to trying the other MAF sensor.

Re: MAF faulty

Gupst - yu order the MAF with your vehicle's VIN number . then you should get the REAL one.
And as Stefan said - make sure they only order the INSERT
BUT -- before you buy new one -- Clean the current one [ELECTRO CLEEN or carb cleaner use Spanjaar Carb cleaner --
CAREFULL - don't damage them tiny draadjies inside :-)
Hold the can about 200mm away from the sensor, spray and the wait for it to dry [don't blow on it - don't shake it ]

[ek bedoel die MAF sensor :rolling: :rolling: :rolling: :rolling:

You may have to buy the special tool te remove the screws holding it in place - the wires just clip off the plug. [looks like an Allan Key - but more corners and it is hollow inside. [I removed mine wit a long nose plier and then when out i grooved the screw heads with a hacksae so I can remove it with a normal flat screwdriver]

You in Durb's ?? make contact with Jules and Andre down there .. Jules also know lots of technical stuff/

Re: Registering a UK Patrol in SA

I put this time ago on WEGRY Kampvuur as well - but in summary -- here is the RSA info on import of cars on SABS

SOOS OOMPIE GESE HET -- kry die vereistes by die SABS [Bureau van Standaarde]
Permanent Importation

Permanent Importation of Vehicles into South Africa

If you intend on importing a foreign registered vehicle into South Africa, you need to qualify for an Import Permit as well as a Letter of Authority.
Import Permit

To obtain the Import Permit, contact ITAC:
Telephone +27 (012) 394 3610 / 3617 or +27 (086) 184 3384
E-mail RVanvuuren@itac.org.za

Application forms may be obtained from ITAC's website. Visit http://www.itac.org.za.
To qualify for the Import Permit, you need to prove to ITAC that you are either a returning resident, having owned and used the vehicle for 6 months or more prior to it’s importation into SA or that you are an immigrant in the country - your permanent residency has come through.
Letter of Authority

To obtain the Letter of Authority, contact SABS:
Telephone +27 (012) 428 6314 / 6534

Application forms may be obtained from SABS' website. Visit http://www.sabs.co.za.
In order to qualify for a rebate of customs duty, a returning resident needs to prove to SARS that they have owned and used the vehicle for 12 months or more prior to it’s importation into South Africa (only one car per family may qualify for rebate of duties - 2nd and 3rd vehicles pay full duties) and that they gave up their residency in South Africa.
Once you are in possession of these two documents, you need to contact a clearing agent - SARS will be able to refer you to one. Clearing agents will assist with the SAD500 form and arrange for the payment of duties and taxes, if any, to SARS. Once duties have been paid, SARS will issue a document called Customs Release Notification form. This form is then taken to the vehicle licensing department and the vehicle is then registered in SA. (Please note, left-hand driven vehicles manufactured after 1 January 2000 may not be imported into South Africa - they do not qualify for the Letter of Authority.

Re: Rear axle tow out???

Difficult one. Firstly, that is a rather difficult measurement to make with a tape measure. There are many things in the way, and the rim doesn't have a particulrly good reference surface.

Also, you might be looking at a bent or dadly-mounted rim as well, and the measurement should be taken with the wheels in a variety of positions.

There may be some toe in or out on a live axle, but I have no idea how much is allowable.
