Re: Soft shackles

Agree, the fuse would be the rope, recovery point(s) . I've never seen or heard of one breaking, ever. (not even incorrectly sized units)

Re: How much can I pay for a TD42 GU?

For an unmolested 4,2 in good condition, one owner, and less than 300 000km, it would be fair to pay anything between R150 000 - R220 000 in my opinion, depending on how you value those attributes.
They are very scarce vehicles.

Re: Soft shackles

Ja, its counterintuitive:

The soft shackle was designed to be safer than using bow shackles but his recovery points are too sharp for the soft shackle, so he's using the bow shackle as it carries a smooth radius, so we back to using bow shackle, its just so silly.

Re: Soft shackles

agree with you pete, there's no sense whatsoever, other than the convenience of speedily attaching the snatchh/pull strap, as one doesnt need loosen and remove the bow shackle pin.

Re: Soft shackles

The ONLY benefit, when using them this way, is that the Bow-Shackle doesnt need to be undone. That is it.

Re: Cluck sound when pulling in 4x4

Make sure it's not just worn front control arm bushes. They make an intermittent cluck sound under load if they are worn out, which will get more and more frequent as time goes on.

Re: Time to Replace OME (2in)?

The biggest difference to you can make to a lifted patrol are those drop boxes. I run 3" lift and it feels like factory steering geometry, maybe even better.
