Makes sense: melting comes from heat, heat comes from excessive current, excessive current comes from low resistance or a short.

Undo the idler pulley's center nut, adjust with the tensioner bolt, then tighten the center nut again. Cold belt deflection is specified as 9mm between the aircon & crankshaft pulleys at the bottom.
