Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

Hi Peter I am not sure what point you are making? At the outset I stated that there is a relationship between KW and NM. That if two vehicles are making the same KW at the same RPM the Torque must be the same. You have just reinforced that, it’s a mathematical constant. The question is this on two v...

Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

Michael I wasn't saying all will be the same.. What I was saying is if for eg. one Patrol makes exactly the same kw at the same Rpm as another their Torque graph must be the same or very very similar. It has to be. Similar peak power must produce similar peak torque. While these are all turbo charge...

Re: Understanding power vs torque on a dynometer

''Therefore, any dyno torque curve must include some sort of calculation to determine the gear ratio.''

The reasoning for pegging the torque to factory spec.

Re: Understanding power vs torque on a dynometer

Thanks Peter for expanding and making it even more clear, in a more thorough technical manner. :goodpost:

My experience has been consistent, same car, same dyno, months apart.

Obviously regular calibration of equipment should be carried out.

Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

[/quote] SAC Centurion's dyno takes abselutely no calculations into account. They just measure what is found at the wheels. I have done many dyno runs there and had vehicles with similar KW curves and WAY different torque curves and visa versa so not sure exactly how they get both readings. Will ask...

Understanding power vs torque on a dynometer

In Carlo’s thread I stated that torque cannot be measured on a dyno. In essence the statement is correct. The dyno employs a load-cell to measure torque as it is impossible to measure torque at the rollers. "Do you want your engine to make HORSEPOWER or TORQUE?" This question is usually asked in a t...

Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

Sorry was a mistake
Dyno only measure Kw power not torque.
As I wrote earlier.

Internal software provides for a representation of torque.
To get that reading at the flywheel is where the calculation comes in based on factory spec.

How I understand it anyway

Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

Hope I am not taking away from Carlo's thread Attached see ling of my Patrol dyno tuned today. First run after fitment at RGM Motorsport Tomorrow will be a couple of hours of Road Testing and applying settings "on the road'' where you car is set up "tuned' in real world driving conditions And then f...
