Re: 4.8 Fuel pump

I replaced the pump today with a unit sourced from Midas. In summary from other posts here the two recommended fuel pumps are as follows: Bosch 1St/Pc 0 580 453UNI and SD43070 . I've linked to the forums where they are discussed. At Midas they had the Bosch in stock but it was much more expensive th...

Re: 2 x 4.5 Patrols for possible Biz venture

Fanus (SJC) had a nice one for sale for a giveaway price. It might still be available.

Re: Patrol 4.8 Starter

Did you end up replacing the starter with new or had it refurbished? Part number for new Bosch unit would be nice? Thx Buddy, I had it refurbished for less than R1k at Auto electrical services in Pretoria West. The owner said I can also get a refurbished unit for slightly more if I want a backup to...

Re: Rear replacement bumper with towbar vs standard bumper and towbar

Agreed, on my first outing the tinfoil steps crumpled and I ripped my rear bumper off. Consider an off road bumper if you're going to be playing off road. Fixing the rear bumper with Nissan parts just once will cost as much as an off road replacement.

Re: Patrol 4.8 Starter

A quick update. Putting the starter back was even easier. The steps I followed were as follows: 1. I held the starter in place from the bottom with my right hand while screwing in the bottom bolt. This was just tight enough so it is mostly flush at the top as well. I gave it a few turns with the spa...

Re: Patrol 4.8 Starter

Ian, I just had another thought, I recall my ratchet head was too big to fit. I ended up using the breaker bar which needs a lot less space. Perhaps that explains why it was easy to get in there.

Re: Patrol 4.8 Starter

Perhaps that is a difference between the 4.5 and 4.8? I removed the top bolt from the top of the engine. The wrench could only turn ever so slightly, just enough so I could undo the bolt with the spanner. Once the bolt was loose enough I used just the extension. I have also read of people coming in ...

Re: Mad Man Coolant Level Detector Install

Very nice Ian. Thanks for the write up. My father lost an engine some years ago due to a coolant leak so I can really see the value in this. All it takes is a few minutes of not paying attention and the engine is gone.

Re: Patrol 4.8 Starter

Total length of the extension is 12.5 cm. I measured it so I can buy my own for the same reason. My neighbour was kind enough to lend me a selection of his favourite extensions.
