I missed last years one, but really enjoyed the year before. That is why I really want to cruise this one. Our diesels love this kind of sand

Re: sump kompressie. baie wit rook. en treurig

As long as there are no scratches when you take it off and clean up the vales etc. then it should be fine. Just check it with a straight edge like this to make sure its still flat.....

Re: sump kompressie. baie wit rook. en treurig

Yeah, as Michael said, It is the best thing to do, but due to the head being cast iron and not aluminium, if the funds are tight, and all was working fine before then it won't be an issue if you just put the head straight back on without a skim. Re-seating the valves and new valve stem seals don't c...

Re: sump kompressie. baie wit rook. en treurig

Michael, yeah I also had a big fright when I had to buy new head bolts, but I was told by Frans 6 years back when I did my motor that it would be better to put new and then you know you have piece of mind, and at 22.7:1 compression ratio, that's one almighty bang and pressure in that cylinder and th...

Doing the head on these motors is luckily not a delicate dainty job as the head is a cast iron heavy chunk of metal and not aluminium. So yeah it can be done in the car, its just a little more difficult when positioning it back onto the block when putting everything back together again and keeping d...

Re: sump kompressie. baie wit rook. en treurig

Leon, the nice thing about your motor is that its not a failure, so your costs should be quite low. Obviously the motor needs to be stripped. CAREFULLY remove the head. Its a bliksemse heavy chunk of cast iron, but and probably doesn't need any work done to it, unless you wish to spend a few Rands o...

Re: Tonteldoos and fire piston

I've seen something like this on a few survival programmes on dstv, like Bear Grylls etc. They shove a small piece of charcoal or any carbonized material in the tube and bang it hard and fast on a solid surface. the heat generated from the compression stroke pops that material out glowing red !! Thi...
