Re: Narrow or wide

Thanks guys, for kickstarting my mind on the whole debate. I think all the factors have been mentioned. Would imagine skinny tyres are quieter? I would also like to add that increased friction is a good thing... friction is the same as traction... I am leaning to wide. The patrol is heavy and I tow...

Re: Narrow or wide

Friction is NOT the same as traction. And tread pattern etc. is much more of a factor in noise than width is. But, unlike me, you have power and weight. I only have weight. When I think of noise i am thinking of the same tyre but different widths... so all else equal wider tyres will generate more ...

Narrow or wide

Soooo... storm trooper needs new shoes. The Cooper SST 305/70R16s are over 10 years old and been on two patrols. They are starting to loose lugs and I get laughed out of tyre places when i suggest balancing them. They also sound like freight trains. I have kept them on the troll to run them out but ...

Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

There is a butterfly valve in the intake manifold than can be removed... it is a bit like an EGT valve in that it is an emissions related thing and when removed is credited with increased fuel efficiency and better throttle response at low revs. I did a quick look but cannot find a reference... I lo...

Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

For sure. Done right it shouldn’t result in major issues. But Will a converted motor do 300 000kms? I guess we don’t know yet, but I’m leaning towards no, but all conjecture at this point. Don’t get me wrong though, I would kill to be able to do a RGM supercharger, I think that’s the ultimate! I do...

Re: 4.8L Performance upgrade options

The main reason I bought a patrol was the legendary reliability. I dont want to mess with any settings that Nissan designed as obviously they work very well. If its your toy, then sure, turbo it, supercharge it etc, but, for me, if its a holiday, long distance cruiser, it needs to be as reliable as...
